No Newsletter this Month

Unfortunately, the company I use for my email newsletter misled me in its efforts to prevent spam emails. To this end, they removed many of our subscribers who have indicated they wish to receive email from G Squared. Not being interested in discussing a remedy to their misrepresentation, I have decided to cancel my account with them. To that end, there will be no June newsletter while I research other email companies.

Constant Contact was great to work with until this episode. I would have preferred to stay with them, but they were really not helpful with an issue caused by their associates.

Paul Sumner, Craftsman

Bird On A Hot Tin Can

Greensboro, NC artist Paul Sumner has been creating in wood for more than two decades. His work has evolved from jewelry boxes and furniture into mixed media fish, birds and dogs. This "Mellow Mint Bird #3" is handcarved from basswood and painted with 6 coats of gesso. Sumner then carves, paints, sands and waxes the body until it achieves an old world lustre. Glass eyes, an old spool of thread and an antique Mellow Mints tin complete the sculpture.

Sumner's most recent works involve combining metal and wood. As an avid antique collector, Paul has an abundance of old tins and other objects to add unexpected visual treats to all his current work.

See more of Paul's work on our website gsquaredgallery.com.

Absolut Genius

Mitchell Glassworks' Cheese Tray

This is about the best way to be green and recycle out there! Drink your cocktails and then use the bottle for a cheese tray. Pittsburgh artists Linda and Greg Mitchell recycle bottles from around the city and transform them into cheese trays, spoon rests or soap dishes. Popular all over, these trays can even be custom-made from your special occasion bottles. Not all bottles are good candidates for flattening and if you're interested, the Mitchells need to see the bottle first. But if you're interested in making a useful object out of a special bottle, just let us know.

In the meantime, think about these as great housewarming gifts for all those new homeowners out there... It's best to call the gallery to find out what designs we currently have in stock. 1.724.238.8083
