The 3/50 Project

Saving the Brick and Mortars Our Nation is Built On

This new grassroots undertaking is a great benefit to all of us who are independent merchants striving to make a living in a retail world of dwindling discretionary spending. It's a fantastic idea that needs to be spoken about and acted on. Cinda Baxter first talked about the idea in her blog, alwaysupward.com. The idea took hold and she's been working tirelessly to promote it. Here's the idea. Think of three independently owned stores in your area that you'd miss the most if they were gone. That's the "3" in 3/50. Then go in and buy something in each of the three stores for a grand total of $50. That, in case you did not catch it, is the "50" in 3/50. Do this every month and you are supporting your local businesses. This is meant to help all of us little guys weather out this economic tsunami. Not the big box stores or the franchises. Us. Independents. Click on the 3/50 project logo above to go to their website and join the groundswell. For every $100 spent in independently owned stores, $68 goes right back into the local economy. Do the same in a national chain and only $48 stays local. Shop online and there is absolutely no local benefit. I'll admit to some online buying, but I'm going to change that today.

Peter Hill's Cool Cat Clock

This Dude's Hip

Like all Cool Cats out there, this dude's the hippest. One of Peter Hill's classic designs, this pendulum clock will certainly entertain all cat lovers out there. And perhaps even some of those not-so cat lovers out there. It's simply not possible to keep a straight face when first laying eyes on this timepiece. Peter Hill and Tara Cafiero design and create the original artwork of many of man's best friends. Cats, dogs, birds and insects are all in the repertoire of this talented couple. Not only do they create these fantastic clocks with the wagging tales, but they also make thermometers, watches, pillboxes and clocks of different styles. We have many of the designs in stock at the gallery, so stop by or call. All clocks run on a single AA battery. Clocks measure approximately 13" H x 4.5" W.

David Gates, Woodworker

Pittsburgh artist, David Gates, has always been involved in the creative arts. In his words about his efforts, "These are functional and useful pieces, but their primary function is to give delight. Each piece contains little surprises..." To see him assemble these pieces is a surprise in itself. We are very excited to represent David and we look forward with relish to each new piece he brings us. His work is certainly delightful and will most definitely put a smile on your face. More examples of his work can be found on our website. This link, David Gates, will take you to the page on our website.
