Saving the Brick and Mortars Our Nation is Built On
This new grassroots undertaking is a great benefit to all of us who are independent merchants striving to make a living in a retail world of dwindling discretionary spending. It's a fantastic idea that needs to be spoken about and acted on. Cinda Baxter first talked about the idea in her blog, alwaysupward.com. The idea took hold and she's been working tirelessly to promote it. Here's the idea. Think of three independently owned stores in your area that you'd miss the most if they were gone. That's the "3" in 3/50. Then go in and buy something in each of the three stores for a grand total of $50. That, in case you did not catch it, is the "50" in 3/50. Do this every month and you are supporting your local businesses. This is meant to help all of us little guys weather out this economic tsunami. Not the big box stores or the franchises. Us. Independents. Click on the 3/50 project logo above to go to their website and join the groundswell. For every $100 spent in independently owned stores, $68 goes right back into the local economy. Do the same in a national chain and only $48 stays local. Shop online and there is absolutely no local benefit. I'll admit to some online buying, but I'm going to change that today.
